Our Outdoor Shade Solutions
Motorized Exterior Roller Shades
The most popular choice for Calabasas patios. These shades drop down at the touch of a button (or voice command) to block sun, then retract completely when you want an open view. Available in solar screen fabrics that block 90–97% of UV while maintaining your view of the hills.
Best for: Covered patios, pergolas, outdoor kitchens, pool cabanas
Patio Sun Screens
Fixed or retractable screens that provide consistent sun protection. Available in various openness levels — from sheer (5% openness, maintaining views) to blackout (complete sun block for media rooms or west-facing patios).
Best for: West-facing patios, outdoor dining areas, spaces with afternoon sun exposure
Outdoor Privacy Shades
Create a private outdoor room with drop-down shades that block both sun and sightlines. Perfect for properties along busy roads or with close neighbors.
Best for: Side yards, hot tubs, ground-floor patios
Why Calabasas Homes Need Outdoor Shades
The 91302 zip code gets an average of 284 sunny days per year. Without shade protection:
- Outdoor furniture fades and deteriorates faster
- Patio surfaces can reach 140°F+ in direct summer sun
- Indoor A/C costs spike when heat radiates through patio doors
- UV exposure makes outdoor entertaining uncomfortable from 11am–4pm
Custom outdoor shades can reduce patio temperatures by 15–20°F and cut UV exposure by up to 97%.
Outdoor Shade Pricing in Calabasas
Outdoor shade pricing depends on the size of the opening, fabric choice, and motorization:
- Manual Exterior Roller Shades: Starting around $400–800 per opening
- Motorized Exterior Shades: Starting around $800–1,500 per opening
- Smart-Home Integrated (Somfy/Lutron): Starting around $1,200–2,000 per opening
All outdoor shade installations include professional measurement, custom fabrication, and expert installation. Motorized options include programming and smart-home setup.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long do outdoor shades last in Calabasas weather?
It depends on the fabric, how exposed the spot is, and care. Sun, wind and rain wear any exterior fabric over time, and a shade on a sheltered patio will outlast one facing open afternoon sun and wind. We recommend a fabric and mounting for your exposure at the visit, and the manufacturer's written warranty terms are on our warranty page.
Can outdoor shades be motorized?
Yes. Options include wall-mounted switches, remote controls, smartphone apps, and voice control through Alexa, Google Home, or Apple HomeKit.
Do outdoor shades work on open patios without a roof?
Exterior shades need a mounting surface above the opening (beam, soffit, header). If your patio has no overhead structure, send us photos and we will tell you what is possible.
What fabric openness should I choose?
1 to 3% openness gives maximum UV block while you can still see through from inside. 5% is a common balance of view and protection. 10% and higher gives more view and less UV protection. We bring fabric samples to your home so you can see how each option looks with your specific view and light conditions.
What affects the price of outdoor shades?
The size of the opening, the fabric you choose, and whether the shade is manual or motorized. We give an exact written price after we see the space, either from your photos and measurements or at a free in-home visit.
What warranty comes with outdoor shades?
Exterior shade systems carry the manufacturer's 5 years warranty on fabric and hardware, and our own installation workmanship is warranted for 12 months. Wind, hail, rain and fading from extended sun are not covered by the manufacturer, so ask us for the written terms before you order.
